Two thousand and nineteen.. fresh blogs

Here we are, another year complete, once more around the sun.

It was great to see the new year in with a beach swim in decent swell at sunrise, after spending the night around the bonfire with all the Boludo’s I call friends and family.

It meant sleeping the day away, but here I am on the beach again, drinking Yerba Mate with my wonderful partner and watching the sun go down on the first of January Two Thousand and Nineteen. Feliz año nuevo para todos.

A cheers

What does this have to do with ribs you ask?

Well this is in fact just the beginning, the welcome post, the soft opening if you will.

There will be ribs to come, but also ramblings, adventures and general documentation of things I find interesting in life and in general.

This will hopefully be something to read in between your internet travels and hopefully bring something of interest.

Mucho gusto boludos, hasta pronto.

It’s already March? Jesus!

Well my goal of posting more regularly already looks difficult, someone sneezed somewhere and all of a sudden it’s the beginning of March.

There has been some grills, and I feel there is another one coming soon but i’m going to save that for my next post, which I promise (to myself since I think i’m the only one actually reading this currently) will be sooner than three months between.

This post is more a segway to that elusive next post about delicious meats grilled on the iron fire.

Anyway

Me and Lu got away for the weekend, headed up to Whangapoua which is in between Coromandel town and Whitianga. My God what a spot! The beaches are pristine, every bay a little piece of magic and the views out beyond are unimaginable.

We took the tandem kayak and paddled from one bay to the next (Whangapoua around to New Chums Beach) and it was absolutely, without any exaggeration the most beautiful kayak journey I have undertaken.

We stayed also at a campground known as Earls Paradise, Earl himself is a great dude and his space there is stunning. He’s got a lovely bit of land he has transformed and maintains for the purpose of sharing with the visitors to the area who want to witness the setting of the Sun and rising the next day over the vast blue ocean of calm.

The walk to New Chums Beach has a detour to walk up to the top of the point and the views it holds there… well the photos won’t do it complete justice but you can imagine when you reach the top, drenched with sweat and crack that first beer at 10am in the morning… paradise.

In between all of our nature connection we visited a local restaurant/bar called Lukes Kitchen which is was full of craft beer and woodfired pizza, both of which we gave a wee nudge alongside a bowl of mussels, man the Coromandel provides!

It was a great weekend away and only a few hours up the road, the drive is full of winding roads which is a dream to drive if a) you like driving and b) you have a manual that drives well.

I ticked both of those boxes and had a great time driving the West Coast of the Coromandel whilst Lu got to stare out at some of the best scenery in the country.

10/10 Would recommend all of the above.

Until next time.
